Argentina has defeated Australia 12-5 in the Cup quarter finals of the International Rugby Sevens Adelaide this morning.

“We got a great start to the game, we won the restart, we went straight into attack then we lost that turnover and things started to turn sour after that,” the Australian coach, Michael O’Connor said.

“Argentina did play very well, they contested everything and their support player was excellent and at the end of the day they made fewer errors than what we did,” he added.

In the first half Dino Tomas Caceres scored an early try for Argentina and Martin Rodriguez followed with a conversion.

Just before the break Argentina scored again with a try to Martin Bustos Moyano to take the score to 12-0.

In the second half Australia tightened up their defence and Argentina were unable to score again.

Shaun Foley crossed the line late in the second half to put five points on the board for Australia.

Australia will next play Wales in the semi final of the Plate competition, which will kick off at 3.12pm Adelaide time.

“They are a good side Wales. They’re World Cup winners but we have beaten them this year in four encounters,” O’Connor said “We just have to get up and finish on a good note. We have played some good Rugby on the weekend and it is important that we hold our standards.”
